Study guide development: theoretical justification and practical implementation (using foreign language as a case study)

Abstract: University education assumes that students must possess certain knowledge and skills at each stage of studying. Their availability is checked when performing tasks, tests, abstracts, final projects, research works during the educational process, taking credittests and exams at the end of a term or academic year. When preparing for such types of tasks, learners often experience stress and anxiety, because they are not sure which aspects of the material they need to know: whether they are general knowledge of the topic, specific definitions, numerical data, or names, and etc. Students do not know what to focus on. In such cases, pedagogical or teaching aids, i.e. study guides are used to make the process of mastering the educational material easier. The results of the research can be used later in a larger-scale study focused on the need to implement a syllabus and study guide into the educational process at the higher education stage, as well as on the development of syllabuses and study guides not only for a specific discipline, but for the whole set of disciplines and the course as a whole.

Keywords: discipline, tasks, learners, syllabus, study guide.
