Realization of the ethnocultural component in the content of the subject
“Mother (Khanty) language” through the presentation of verbal
and non-verbal artifacts

Abstract: At present significant transformations are taking place in Russian education. In particular, the definition
of “ethnocultural component” has been added to the thesaurus of methodological training, which assumes a special
organization of educational process at school aimed at receiving ethnocultural knowledge; formation of skills to analyze,
evaluate and interpret the phenomena of native language and culture; acquisition of communication experience in the space
of ethnocultural knowledge; mastering of the main values of the culture of a certain ethnos. The ethnocultural component is the leading at all stages of teaching the native (Khanty) language in the secondary school of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous
Okrug-Ugra. In this case, the cumulative function of the language helps to acquaint the students with the culture of their
ethnic group. That is why the quality of native language instruction at school determines the quality of general education
of the modern generation of indigenous peoples of the North. We believe that the implementation of the ethno-cultural
component in the content of the subject “Native (Khanty) language” is possible through the presentation of verbal and
non-verbal artifacts. Hence the necessity to develop a set of tasks for the native language with an ethnocultural component.
In the present article for the first time, a complex of tasks in the native (Khanty) language for the 5th grade pupils is
published within the framework of the ethno-cultural aspect with the use of artifacts. Artifacts are materialized cultural
objects that reveal the meaning and significance of the Khanty ethnos culture, for example, a set of tools, buildings, and
their details, a national costume, folklore, a piece of music, applied decorative art, etc.

Keywords: indigenous peoples of the North, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra, ethno-cultural aspect, verbal
artifact, nonverbal artifact, native language, Khanty language, Surgut dialect.
