The main characteristics of a model of psychological and pedagogical assistance for foreign students’ adaptation to the Russian higher education institutions

Abstract:

The study examines the main characteristics of a model of psychological and pedagogical support for foreign students’ adaptation to a Russian university. The organizational and facilitative levels of support are described. The conditions for the support effectiveness being a special type of pedagogical activity are considered. The purpose of the article is to substantiate and discover the author’s approaches to the organization of foreign students’ assistance in the educational process of a Russian university; it also considers the formation of psychologically comfortable and favorable adaptation environment. The main method of research is the scientific information analysis concerning students’ adaptation problems, as well as required psychological and pedagogical assistance. The study applies different theories and approaches classifications, their comparison for consistency and complementarity; it summarizes the world pedagogical experience as well. The author investigates the theories of psychological and pedagogical assistance organization for students adaptation to the educational process of a modern Russian university, the general description of the scientific foundations of psychological and pedagogical assistance in adaptation has been completed, the conditions of assistance in practice have been determined.
The author concluded that the development of a theoretical basis for psychological and pedagogical assistance to foreign students during adaptation at a Russian university is sufficient, but it lacks practical tools.
