Abstract:

Introduction. Trolling is widespread on the Internet and in the mass media. The specifics of trolling, reflecting the forms of conflict in the media sphere, have not been sufficiently studied.
Methods. The article is based on the general scientific methodology of historical and philosophical analysis, the general theory of knowledge. As a leading method, a systematic approach is used, according to which any object can be considered as an integral complex of interrelated elements.
Results. Most materials related to trolling are mono-functional. Mass media also use dysfunctional capabilities. Single or systematic provocative actions are not identical to a civilized polemic in which the parties listen to each other’s arguments. The trolling subjects reject, as a rule, the principles of discussion based on respect for the participants in the dialogue. In some situations, trolling can acquire a socially signif-icant effect. Civic activists are able to encourage prominent people who hide unseemly intentions and deeds to self-disclosure, detection of true aspirations that are far from the interests of society.

Conclusion. From the point of view of the intensity of the information impact, the author singled out trolling-lunge and trolling-campaign, from the point of view of the purpose – trolling-temptation, trolling-exposure and trolling-revenge. Trolling harms the reputation of the mass media, strengthens consumer doubts about the credibility of the information mass media disseminate. Despite this many subjects of journalism are not afraid of trolling, provoking a conflict, these ones share the idea of any scandal as an effective way to draw atten-tion to themselves of the audience and advertisers. Manifestations of trolling are wave-like. In a stable social situa-tion, the need for it is minimal. As soon as the socio-economic situation worsens, relations between social groups in society or interstate interaction are exacerbating, trolling waves roll on both individuals and social groups, which serve as “protective valves” to avert negative emotions. Most of the conflicts that arose as a result of trolling are destructive and create conditions for the disunity of people and the preservation of disagreements.
