Research works review concerning cessation of business activities

Abstract:

The purpose of the article is to analyze the reasons for business activity cessation, as well as the existing ways for entrepreneurs to leave their business.
Continuity of research problems. Investigation of certain aspects of business cessation began after 1995. At the initial stage, only Western European and American scientists were interested in this problem. Since 2005 the geography of researches has expanded significantly with researchers from Australia, Poland, Canada, India, South Korea, Iran, Indonesia and other countries. Our analysis is focused on the main reasons for activities cessation by entrepreneurs on the ways of this process realization.
Information sources. Our analysis is based on the study of monographs, articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, published working papers and research reports.
Result. The article presents the characteristics of the main reasons and ways of entrepreneurs leaving their business. The author suggests their classification and typology. The study of the problem of business activity cessation is relevant because it allows to reduce the negative consequences of this phenomenon, to reduce the economically unjustified liquidation of small and medium-sized enterprises, to scientifically justify the assistance and support for entrepreneurs in crucial situations.
The significance of the study for theory and practice. The results of the work can be used in scientific research of entrepreneurship in Russia. They can be used in the educational activities of higher educational institutions, as well as in the professional development of specialists associated with the entrepreneurship support. The results are of interest to existing entrepreneurs, helping them to properly organize business quit programs.
