“Rose of the world” by Daniil Andreev in the context of Silver Age cultur

Abstract: The article researches the connection between the bright phenomena of the Silver Age and the book by
D. Andreev. The mystical duality, the world unity of V. Solovyov, the synthesis of arts and the sense of frontiers and going
abroad echo D. Andreev’s idea of a diffuse world in which ‘‘transphysical layers’’ coexist with physical ones, forming an
integral system of interaction. The search for a new artistic expression, a new faith in the changing social conditions of
the mid – XIX and early XX centuries continues in the novel by D. Andreev. The questions of aesthetics of the new art, the
structure of society and the world posed by symbolists find answers in the ‘‘Rose of the World.’’ In the book, the feeling of
the World Feminine Principle, as D. Andreev calls it, is analyzed and elaborated in detail. The Beginning, Saint Sophia, the
Maternal Principle, and Divine Femininity are just a few names that reflect ‘‘Her’’. She, shining with Eternal Femininity
(V. Solovyov), baked in the image of a Beautiful Lady (A. Blok), is transformed into the image of Navna (D. Andreev), the
soul and righteousness of our world, close to the image of the Mother of God. The musicality of the world, words, and
artistic texts reaches a new level of awareness. D. Andreev, as it were, translates from the language of the higher spheres,
plays with the sounds of the human language, not adapted to the explanation of truths, to bring the meaning of what was said to the ‘‘inexpressible.’’ Thus, the chapters of The Rose of the World devoted to the history of Russian literature can
be considered a text whose poetics and creative attitudes correlate with the poetics of the Silver Age, being its artistic
continuation.
