Naval newspapers in the media system of the Ministry of Defense of Russia: content and functional specificity
The naval print media of Russia has deep historical roots. Today it is represented by various periodicals being relevant not only for military sailors. However, there is still no full-fledged analysis of the content and functional specifics of naval periodicals. This factor determines the topicality of the present study. The object of the study is the periodicals of the Russian Navy. The subject of the study is the content and functional specifics of naval periodicals (on the example of the newspaper of the Pacific Fleet “Combat Watch”). The purpose of the study is to reveal the content originality of Russian naval newspapers.To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following research tasks: to get acquainted with the history and current state of the media system of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, to study the history of the emergence, development and formation of Russian naval periodicals, to determine the place of naval publications in the
system of military media, in the course of content analysis to determine the content originality and the functional purpose of naval periodicals (on the example of the naval newspaper “Combat Watch”). Empirical material is based on media texts of the newspaper “Combat Watch”. The chronological period of the study is 2022. A total of 30 issues of the newspaper were analyzed.The theoretical basis of the study is the works of E.G. Vapilina, V.V. Larchenkova, A.E. Merkulova, A. Mikhailova,
N.A. Shimshinov. The following research methods are used in the work: the method of historicism, the typological method, the method of content analysis. The materials of this study can be used in the lectures and practical classes design of the course “History of national journalism”, “Military journalism”. The results of the study can be used to optimize the activities of the media in this subject area.
