Abstract:

Introduction. The article discusses the use of project activities based on information and communi-cation technologies for the formation of universal competences in foreign language classes for students ma-joring in tourism.
Materials and Methods. Methods of scientific and methodical literature analysis as well as teaching methods for the development of universal competencies are used. Some interactive information and com-munication technologies of project training are described.
Results. The authors analyze the experience of using these technologies in world educational practice and describe such activities as individual projects for the preparation of academic and informational presen-tations and digital stories in Petrozavodsk State University. The article indicates a set of universal compe-tencies that are formed in teaching process using the described technologies.
Conclusions. The authors conclude that extensive use of information and communication technologies in teaching English to the future specialists of tourist industry contributes to the formation of their universal competences. The potential of project activities for the formation of universal competencies is significant.
