The research problem is to identify the main directions of scientific and technological modernization of engineering industry and identify their features as an instrument of the fourth industrial revolu-tion aimed at building “Industry 4.0”, the development and dissemination of digital technologies, and the “Inter-net of things”. The purpose of this article is to identify the main directions of scientific and technological mod-ernization of the Russian machine-building industry and their features in modern conditions of development, as a tool for the implementation of strategically important tasks set by the state.
Materials and Methods. The research methods used in this article are synthesis, analysis and modeling.
Results. In the course of the study, a system for assessing the technical and organizational level of production of the Russian engineering industry was developed and tested. The data obtained allowed the author to identify areas of scientific and technological modernization, as well as to determine their features at the present stage of development of the engineering industry in Russia.
