Cognition through image: concerning importance of educational information visualization

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the problem of visual teaching methods importance in the context of the rapid increase of visual information in modern communication. The goal is to justify the need to introduce technologies of educational information visualization into the educational process based on the analysis of the experience accumulated by pedagogy and the results of psychological research. The methodological reference point in the study of the problem was the interdisciplinarity, which made it possible to integrate knowledge, indirectly or directly related to the subject of research, from various scientific fields: pedagogy, psychology, and neurobiology. To solve the problem posed in the article, methods of analysis and generalization of theoretical developments and best practices in the system of secondary and higher professional education were used. The research is based on the fundamental principles (objectivity, historicism, integrity, determinism) making possible to consider the subject in dynamics, development and close connection with other phenomena and specific socio-cultural conditions. The article reveals the specifics of the currently emerging form of educational environment requiring the development of new teaching approaches based on the synthesis of education and high technologies. The necessity to use the methods of educational information visualization is proved. The article describes the theoretical and practical groundworks of Russian and foreign teachers focused on the implementation of the principle of clarity in teaching. In the study the author came to the conclusion that to ensure the efficiency of modern learners education, it is necessary to use the pedagogical technologies being adequate to peculiarities of thinking, formed in the era of high technology, in terms of «visualizing» world and increased information load.
