Abstract:
The “Home of the Gentry ” novel by I. S. Turgenev is well known in China, it was translated into Chi-nese by translators many times. The translation of the novel, made by a writer and translator Li Ni, is consid-ered one of the best in China. In the article we pay attention to some features of the evaluation of “Home of the Gentry “, which are due to Li Ni’s acquaintance with the culture of Christianity. This allowed Li Ni to better understand the ideas of Westernism and Slavophilism expressed in the novel. The article publishes fragments of materials from the literary and critical legacy of Li Ni little-known in Russia.
