The grammatical features of some canonical hagiographic texts including in the Metropolitan Macarius Great Menology(middle of XVI century) and being а model of the Old Russian period of the liter-ary language are the object of the study. The relevance of the work is determined due to its inclusion in mod-ern scientific paradigm of cognitive linguistics. The theoretical significance of the research lies in the appli-cation of the conceptual methodology in diachrony. Conceptual analysis, first applied by the author to the study of medieval grammar, allowed to reveal stylistic reasons and the mental mechanism of their appear-ance in the texts of the XV–XVI centuries, various language modes of abstraction of content to a conceptual expression of important semantic features. Some basic language techniques for creating abstract semantics are revealed basing on the texts analysis i.e. extension of the text (paraphrasing), compress text (substantive-ly), the stylistic phenomenon of homonymy of grammatical forms (non-system and system facts of morpho-genesis).
