The article studies the conflict in magical realist fiction. The subject of author’s focus is the balance between innovation and tradition; the first being the freedom from historical and geographical characteristics (magical realism’s contemporary phase distinguishes itself with varying the types of the clashing parties), and the latter being a consistent frame of the conflict (the struggle between unifying realist culture and unique magical one).
