Abstract:

The study deals with the French lifetime edition of a distinctive cycle of lyric prosaic miniatures “Poems in prose” written by I. S. Turgenev. The author took a significant part in preparing his work specifically for the French readers which is very important for our future study. This cycle is based upon peculiar cycle-forming model which is not common for other I. S. Turgenev’s works (like, e.g. “A Sportsman’s sketches”). The French lifetime edition differs from Russian volume both in the quantity of the “texts” included and in the sequence of the miniatures inside the cycle. The purpose of our work is to bring up to date the cycle-forming model presented in French lifetime edition of “Poems in prose”. We believe it will help to understand the Russian edition cycle model better and discover the specific features of both Russian and French editions as well. The results of our study could be used in lectures and discussion works when teaching “History of the Russian Literature”.
