The problem of physical punishment of a child in the family raised
by Fyodor Sologub in his prose and journalism
Abstract: The purpose of our research was to consider the problem of physical punishment of a child in the family; this issue became the main subject in the prose and journalism of Fedor Sologub,the writer of the late XIX – early XX century. The research material included the stories ‘‘The Sting of Death”, ‘‘A Dream on the Rocks”, the novel ‘‘The Legend being Created” and the article ‘‘On Corporal Punishment”. The research is carried out on the basis of methods of interpretation, comparison, observation and generalization. The obtained results showed that for the first time the designated problem was posed in the national journalism and fiction of the XIX century. The names of F. M. Dostoevsky and N. G. Garin- Mikhailovsky stand out in particular among the Russian writers who have addressed the problem of corporal punishment in the family. In the ‘‘Diary of a writer”, F. M. Dostoevsky addressed the topic of difficult childhood and difficult children’s destinies in the stories and essays ‘‘A boy with a pen”, ‘‘A colony of juvenile delinquents», ‘‘A Boy at Christ on the Christmas tree”. In the articles ‘‘About the Kroneberg case”, ‘‘The case of the Dzhunkovsky parents with their own children”, the author described in detail the real cases of cruel punishments he encountered in the judicial chronicle.
