Abstract:

The article is devoted to the study of Omsk region demographic development from the standpoint of the region population analyses. The concept of «depopulation» was chosen as a demographic processes indicator; it also describes the processes of population change. The existence of different viewpoints on this concept interpretation has led
to the concept meaning clarification and to indicators definition revealing the main characteristics and causes of population decline. Basing on the data of state statistics for 1992-2019, the dependences of birth rate and mortality, natural growth (loss), and migration processes in the Omsk region are constructed. The analysis of the obtained dependencies is carried
out, possible reasons for changes in the considered indicators are determined, and the most characteristic periods are highlighted. The authors determined that from 1993 to the present time a decline in the population in the Omsk region was recorded, and the existing emigration cannot compensate for the losses associated with the sharp decrease in the birth rate.
The conclusion is made concerning the need to improve the regional demographic policy.
