Career guidance work with students in the framework of the “Foreign language” discipline: distance-learning format

Abstract:

The article considers the possibilities of distance career guidance work by means of the “Foreign language” discipline at the flagship University. The research is based on analysis of scientific and methodological literature and generalization of experience and methods of conducting professional guidance work activities of Russian universities, including the use of distance forms. The results are an analysis and description of the distance technologies in University career guidance experience used by the work of the Resource center for modern methods of teaching foreign languages at Petrozavodsk state University: webinars and competitions for writing a resume and cover letter, as well as digital stories in the Digital Story format. The article presents the structural and stylistic characteristics of business writing. Specific examples and design samples are given. It also describes the possibilities and features of digital storytelling used for project tasks.
The authors conclude that the pillar University should widely use distance forms of career guidance with students of the region, which significantly increases the possibility of their early involvement in the event life of the University and promotes familiarity with the higher education communication culture and a unified values system. Distance forms of career guidance work have a significant potential for enhancing interaction between school and University structures.
