Abstract:

Social institutions establish the conditions necessary to meet the population needs, regulate the actions of people. It is of interest if regional newspapers cover to the full extent the activities of social institutions of regional significance.
The research was based on the scientific methodology of historical and philosophical analysis, the general theory of cognition, general and particular methods. The system approach is the target method in the study.
Newspapers do not form a holistic, but fragmentary, piecemeal idea of the activities of social institutions of regional significance, thereby limiting the audience’s ability to grasp unresolved problems, the dynamism of socio-economic processes, the paces and prospects of territorial development. The regional press does not use enough mechanisms for ensuring the integrity of the topics of publications such as studying the interests and needs of readers, analyzing events and socio-political processes, and consider the reasons for the underdevelopment or passivity of some of social institutions.
The themes of regional newspapers publications as a complex system with several inconsistent goals reflect imbalance, disproportions in the coverage of the activities of social institutions of regional significance. Fragmentation and lack of explanations by journalists of the reasons and prospects for creating organizations substitute reflection by the regional newspapers of the process of transformation of social institutions, filled with clash of opinions, contradictions, and conflicts of interests arising among public servants. The coverage by the press of political campaigns, as well as conflicts that have caused wide public resonance, sharpens journalists’ interest in the activities of social institutions.
