SYNTACTIC INDICATORS OF A PARTICIPLE AND CONTRASTIVE GRAMMAR IN TEACHING TRANSLATION

Introduction. This article is devoted to the study of syntactic indicators and translation equivalents of the non-finite forms of the verb, in particular, of the Participle, in teaching translation in terms of contrastive gram- mar. We set as our goal a comparative study of the interlanguage correspondences of English and Russian.

Method and methodology. Methodology of contrastive researches is based on structural and func- tional approach, and general philology. The frequency of using the ways of translating the English participles into Russian is defined with the help of the statistic method of analysis.

The results. The article considers the features of the translation of English participles into Russian de- pending on the function they perform in the sentence. The analysis is conducted in a direction from a sepa- rate grammatical unit in the English language to its correspondences in the Russian language. The study is based on the works of the modern English and American authors.

Conclusions. The given study confirmed the variety of the ways of translating of the English partici- ples in the attributive and adverbial functions into the Russian language and demonstrated the invaluable practical benefit of the contrastive grammar in the process of teaching translation.
