CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN UNDERGRADUATE AGRICULTURE STUDENTS THROUGH FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING

Abstract:

The article is aimed at solving the problem of development of critical thinking skills in undergraduate students through foreign language learning at Agricultural University. Content analysis of the critical think-ing concept allowed the authors to characterize it as an integrative ability of an individual to analyze infor-mation, synthesize ideas and evaluate events, ensuring the processes of comprehension, cognition, and deci-sion-making. The effectiveness of the development of critical thinking skills in the foreign language class is ensured by the following strategies: Reading Circles strategy; Socratic-questions-based discussions; Group presentations; Writing assignments (abstracts, essays). These classroom management strategies create ac-tive meaningful environment that produces a beneficial motivating effect on the meaningful activities of students.
