The following article is devoted to the semantic word formation problem study in the light of the nomina-tion theory. Onomastic derivatives are the empirical material of the study. The research hypothesis questions if the proper names can transfer to the category of words combining the nominative function with the connotative one. At the present stage of the study, it is possible to break up the collected empirical material into four groups. The results of the research can be used in the study of linguistics – word formation, to be precise.
