Abstract:
Modern dentistry is undergoing profound changes driven by the introduction of digital technologies, the
development of personalized medicine, a focus on prevention, and the growing expectations of well-informed patients.
These trends create a gap between traditional methods of teaching medical communication in universities (insufficient
hours, predominance of theory) and the real needs of clinical practice. This study aims to identify key developments in
dentistry and, on that basis, to update the content and methods used to teach communication skills to dental students.
The research is based on the concept of a patient-centred approach and the need to integrate new technologies into the educational process. The analysis was based on the systematization of data from international and Russian scientific databases (PubMed, Scopus, RSCI, CyberLeninka) for the period 2020–2025. Content analysis of literature was used in key areas: digitalization, AI, telestomatology, personalized medicine, and medical communication. The need to shift the focus of training to technological communication (explaining AI and digital systems), motivational counseling (prevention, behavior change), and ethical support for personalized treatment (working with genetic risks) was identified. The ineffectiveness of purely lecture-based methods has been demonstrated. Successful training of future specialists requires the structural integration of practical, simulation, and reflective methods (role-playing games, video analysis) directly into clinical disciplines to create a technologically competent, ethically aware, and patient-motivating specialist who ensures effective medical communication.
