The lyric cycles by Dmitry Vodennikov: ways of creating artistic unity

Abstract. This article is devoted to the consideration of ways to create artistic unity in the lyric cycles of Dmitry
Vodennikov “Immortal love – simple love” and “How to live – to be loved”. The article proposes a possible way to interpret
the cycles basing on the analysis of their thematic and structural features. The work uses the methods of structural-
semantic and “end-to-end” analysis. Materials used. Lyric cycles by Dmitry Vodennikov “Immortal love – simple love”
and “How to live – to be loved” were used as literary material. The “Immortal Love – Simple Love” and “How to Live – To
Be Loved” cycles are organized on the basis of a thematic principle: the theme of love is the main artistic element and
it unites separate parts into a cycle. The complexity and ambiguity of the theme development in the following cycles is
associated with the mosaic nature of their structure and the dialogical way of construction. As a result of the analysis,
we can state that the “Immortal love – simple love” and “How to live – to be loved” cycles constitute a single metatext in
the lyrical work of Dmitry Vodennikov; it is based not only on their thematic proximity, but also on structural similarity.

Keywords: Dm. Vodennikov, lyric cycle, artistic unity, metatext, composition of the cycle, lyrical subject.
