Abstract:

Introduction. The problem of the Russian classics literary tradition transformation in “Matryona’s Place” story by A. I. Solzhenitsyn is considered. Purpose: Genre and style originality consideration of A. I. Solzhenitsyn’s prose.

Materials and Methods. One of the analysis vectors here is the chronotope consideration and with it help one can see the principles of genre formation. In terms of methodology, we rely on the concept of M. M. Bakhtin concerning the relationship between the chronotope and the author’s consciousness orientation value, the theoretical understanding by N. D. Tamarchenko on the chronotope and genre interdependence. The work is based on comparative historical and typological research methods.

Results. Matryona’s figure is comprehended in connection with idyllic outlook, and the story-teller’s figure is seen as a medium of the dramatic relation to life. In the Russian classical literary tradition context an idyllic and drama chronotopes are considered in their inseparable correlation.

Conclusions. Death of the story’s heroine as the death of a tragic hero bears life-affirming moral val-ues; the death of the righteous symbolism leads to a hagiographical context and at the same time to a resur-rection plot. Thus, synthesis of the chronotope and genre traditions creates an artistic integration of the work incorporating cultural memory and renewing spiritual life.
