Abstract:

Introduction. The research was conducted to determine what perceptual attributes of the source area of metals form the basis of the cognitive metaphor, and to determine what kind of cognitive processing they were exposed to during metaphorization.

Materials and Methods. The main method of the analysis was the cognitive definition method, which includes the identification and description of cognitive attributes of language materials, as well as the com-parative method and linguistic observation method.

Results. The study reveals that the metaphor with the source of perceptual attributes of metals is ac-tively used to cognize other objects, thus contributing to a more objective differentiation of different mean-ings of the corresponding word, as well as obtaining important data on the scope and cognitive significance of fundamental knowledge.
