CULTURAL TEXT IN TERMS OF TOTAL DICTATION, OR WHERE THE MEANING IS

Abstract:

Introduction. The problem of incomprehension of the literary text in oral form by mass recipient is defined and solved based on the works done within the “Total Dictation” action. The purpose of the article is to consider the dictation as a secondary text, to identify and describe the factors that lead to a distortion of meaning during the reception and interpretation of the original text (in oral form).

Materials and Methods. A complex of general scientific and linguistic methods was used in the analy-sis. They are: observational method, descriptive method, quantitative calculation method, classification method;
method of sociolinguistic interpretation, method of dictionary definitions analysis. Research procedures are applied to mishearing and other fragments of secondary texts that do not coincide with authentic ones.

Results. Taking into account the interrelation of perceptual and cognitive processes (irreducibility of mishearing to physical interference), it is possible to state the following: the vocabulary of the ethical-emotional sphere is agonimized; mishearing is influenced by current discourses and strong frames. The rup-ture of paradigmatic relations between lexicon units hinders the implementation of the morphological princi-ple of spelling and leads a writer to a written fixation of the homophone, which makes a text fragment objec-tively meaningless.

Conclusions. The article concludes that the deformation of meaning is associated with words, which, according to the frequency dictionary and the National Corpus of the Russian language, occupy different po-sitions: from rare to frequent ones.
