TANATOLOGICAL MOTIVES IN GUSTAV MEYRINK AND HANNS HEINZ EWERS PROSE

Abstract:

The article highlights the theme of death in expressionism, its specificity and conceptual changes over time; it also affirms the growing influence of the human principle, Anthropos, on the fatal aspect, Thanatos. The thesis is illustrated by some examples from silent films, painting and, especially, from literature of the expressionism era, in particular by the texts of Gustav Meyrink and Hanns Heinz Ewers.
