The interdisciplinary nature of school culture

Abstract: The article presents the theoretical basis and research methods to study the phenomenon of school culture. The research problem is to determine the interdisciplinary nature of this phenomenon. The need for research is due to the fact that the available research material both in foreign and domestic pedagogy is aimed at studying school culture from the standpoint of organization management. The purpose of the study is an interdisciplinary analysis of the concept of “school culture”, which makes it possible to identify the structure, features, and functions of school culture. A set of general scientific methods aimed to achieve the goal of the study was used within the framework of interdisciplinary and cultural approaches: analysis, synthesis, description, generalization, systematization, and modeling. Scientific works on philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, pedagogy were analyzed and summarized, which made it possible to identify the characteristics of school culture as an interdisciplinary concept and model its structure. The conducted literary analysis suggests that the study of the school culture problem should be carried out in an interdisciplinary paradigm. As a result of the study the following thesis is substantiated: school culture should be studied as an interdisciplinary phenomenon, it can be considered as a modus vivendi of a modern school changing mainly under the influence of socio-cultural factors.
