Multicultural education in a multicultural university setting

Abstract: The article substantiates the implementation of multicultural education in a multicultural university. The purpose of the work was to study the ethnic self-consciousness of students, as well as the development and implementation of the Program (Project) of multicultural education in a pedagogical university. The content of the work on the formation of positive ethnic self-consciousness and multiculturalism of education is disclosed. A comparative analysis of the ethnic self- consciousness of two ethnic groups (Russians and Kazakhs) living in conditions of monoculture and multiculturalism is carried out. We compared the level of expression of ethnic self-consciousness of Russians living in Kazakhstan and Russians living in the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as Kazakhs living in Kazakhstan, and Kazakhs living in the territory of the Russian Federation. The basis for the study was Kokchetav and Omsk regions. The choice was made in favor of two Kokshetau universities, and Omsk State Pedagogical University. The content of multicultural education (a brief overview of curricula), as well as the content of activities for multicultural education, is shown. In addition to the traditional forms of educational work (curatorial hours, conversations, meetings), original events were held in a variety of forms: photo exhibitions, decoration of wall newspapers, thematic collections of materials for the video panel in the lobby of the faculty for events such as Christmas, Epiphany, Pancake week, Navruz, Ramadan, Easter, etc. The experience of implementing multicultural education with students of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy of the Omsk State Pedagogical University was presented.
