Art-therapy methods in the practice of a family support for parents of children with special needs

Abstract: The adaptation of a family to the process of upbringing and support of a child with disabilities is a serious social and psychological problem nowadays. In this regard, a research aimed at identifying the possibilities of using art- therapy methods in the practice of working with such a family seems relevant. The purpose of the article is to substantiate theoretically and test experimentally the possibilities of using art-therapy methods within the framework of a family support program organized in the Children’s Center of Creative Activities. The systematic and active approaches based in pedagogical science to a family support in an inclusive education, as well as anthropological, humanistic, integrative approaches that reflect the essence of art-therapy methods became the methodological basis of the study. The implementation of research tasks is achieved on the basis of the analysis and generalization of the theory and practice of pedagogics, psychology, curative education, which are in the field of attention of domestic researchers, as well as the use of psychological techniques. The article defines the social significance, the feasibility of attracting and using varieties of art therapy techniques in working with the family for the aim of harmonious development, health improvement and rehabilitation of children, harmonization of parent- child relations, teaching methods of productive adaptation to life, overcoming the state of crisis. The essence and types of art therapy methods aimed at the integration and reintegration of the child’s personality, the development of his emotional and moral potential, an increase in self-esteem and the growth of self-awareness are considered. The features and interconnection of the types of art therapy, their interconnection and integrative nature are demonstrated, their non- clinical and artistic and creative orientation in rehabilitation and correctional work with children with disabilities and their parents is noted. The results of the study will deepen the scientific understanding the methods of the process of the family support, raising a child with disabilities in an inclusive practice, as well as in the system of additional education.
