THE IMPORTANCE OF PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY DEVELOPMENTFOR CADETS OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OF MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS  OF RUSSIA

Introduction. The problem of citizens’ trust to police officers is still very relevant, and it is confirmed by the data of sociological studies on citizens’ trust to law enforcement agencies. Improving the attitude to police and establishing a positive image of the police is inextricably linked to improving the quality of training and development of professional identity of employees. The problem of professional identity development is studied in indissoluble links with such concepts as professional self-consciousness and professional self-determination. One of the main elements of the professional self-consciousness content is the presence of professional motives. An important role in the successful formation of cadets’ professional identity is given to the process of adaptation to the new training conditions in a specialized University. The purpose of the article is to determine the level of students` motivation to learn and choose a profession, awareness of their status and understanding of the need to develop professional identity.

Methodology. The study is based on the results of cadets’, teachers’ and current employees’ survey on the basis of the author’s questionnaires. The survey was conducted at the Omsk Academy of the Russian interior Ministry and the East Siberian Institute of the Russian interior Ministry (Irkutsk).

Results. The survey data of students undergoing initial training, and cadets on issues related to the definition of their professional identification determines the status of students. The survey data of students about the motives of their admission to training and further choice of profession are given. The level of understanding of the “professional identity” concept and the importance of its development by the teaching staff is determined.

Conclusions. The teaching staff of educational institutions should pay attention to issues related to the formation and development of professional identity.
