INFORMATION SPACE AND MEDIA SPACE: CORRELATION OF CONCEPTS

Introduction. In the scientific community there are various ideas about the information and media spaces. Some researchers identify the information and media space, others perceive both concepts as metaphors rather than scientific terms. It is important to find out what brings together and divides the two concepts as complex systems.

Purpose. The author’s goal is to reveal the essence of the relationship between the information and media space, to comprehend the functions performed by the information and media space, the interaction of subjects and objects in these spheres.

Conclusion. Media space is part of the information space if to understand the media in the narrow sense of the word. The functionality of the information and media spaces is not equivalent. The information space is multi- functional, most information flows are chaotic, the news are multi-valued. Media space can be both multifunctional and monofunctional, when one function is expressed distinctly, while others are weak. Information flows never grow shallow, but change directions. In the information space, changing of vectors of the spread of news is faster than in the media space. Subjects of information and media spaces can realize also dysfunctional potential.

Keywords: information space, media space, subject, object, function.
