MODERN ITALIAN TRADITIONS AND FOOD CULTURE AS AN ASPECT OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION

Objective. This work is based on the empirical research, which was held by the author during her European internship in Italy. The purpose is to underline traditional Italian food culture aspects and to reveal modern ones of those Italians who live in the northern regions of the country. Methods. The  author compared them with the contemporary Russian food culture aspects. The material collected from the group of the Italian respondents was analyzed and formed into a questionnaire. The novelty of the study lies in the allocation of the interviewed group, since the subject of the study differs significantly in different regions of Italy, particularly in the north of the country.

Results and summary. As a result, the author has revealed and emphasized not only the distinctive, but similar features of the food culture among the Italians and the Russians. The results obtained could be of a certain interest in connection with the growing level of various contacts between Russia and Italy. It will help to make cross-cultural communication more effective. The field of application of the research results can be quite diverse: from specialists in the field of intercultural communication, business representatives, public figures, to students and a wide range of readers.
