LINGUISTIC  COMIC  DEVICES  IN  ENGLISH  LITERARY  TEXT  AND  WAYS TO INTERPRET THEM INTO RUSSIAN (ON THE BASIS OF MARK TWAIN’S STORY “TAMING THE BICYCLE” AND ITS TRANSLATIONS)

Introduction. The purpose of this article is to analyze linguistic comic devices in the “Taming the bi- cycle” story by M. Twain and translations of this story.

Problem. Research relevance is caused by linguistic interest to linguistic comic devices in literary text and the specific of their interpretation into Russian.

Methods. To make this research possible, the basic techniques and means of comic effect used in the source text and in its translations were identified by continuous sampling method. Hence, the method of lin- guistic analysis (in semantic, grammatical, syntactic and stylistic aspects) was used, and it resulted in a con- trastive analysis of selected linguistic units carried out using the comparative method.

Results. Conclusions. The linguistic comic devices have been described and their translation peculiar- ities have been e analyzed. The authors defined linguistic comic devices used more frequently in the story and analyzed their peculiarities in Russian translations.
